Fall and winter tend to have a "browning" effect on our lawns and landscaping, but it doesn't have to be that way. Gardening experts say fall is the perfect time to add a little splash of color.

Ralph Esposito says flowers such as petunias, pansies, and snapdragons are very fall friendly. In fact, he says they'll even take the freezing temperatures.

"They're going to last from now until April or May, depending on how hot it gets next year. If you plant them now, you'll have color all of the way through the winter. When nothing else is blooming, you're going to have color in your flower beds."

He adds that camellias are also a good choice during the fall and winter. One final tip, make sure you continue watering your flowers and plants, despite the cooler weather.
