The Saltwater Classic has come and gone, but the money raised will last for years. That's because all proceeds go to build underwater reefs for fishermen and divers to enjoy.

It's a beautiful underwater oasis, a diver’s paradise and a fisherman's dream. Sunken boats morphed into fishing reefs are a pricey piece of art and a passion for Scott Vascavage.

"Typical reef deployment goes from 20,000 minimum to a couple hundred thousand dollars," added Vascavage.

Vascavage heads the Organization for Artificial Reefs, known as OAR, a non-profit group dedicated to building amazing fishing holes from scratch. It’s a costly task that fisherman from across the region invest in.

"The biggest moneymaker is angler participation in the Saltwater Classic," said Vascavage.

This year’s turnout hit an all time high, 700 anglers from across the region. It's become a tradition for a team from Advantage Marine. They say forking over a couple thousand dollars to build reefs helps the business.

Dan Bickerstaff with Advantage Marine shared, "We like to do it because it goes to OAR. Anything that goes to fishing helps us."

And it helps the environment, providing a fish haven for the underwater world. The Saltwater Classic falls on Father’s Day weekend every year.
